Robert (Bob) R. Horne, P.Eng., is awarded the 2004 Canadian Society of Agricultural Engineering (CSAE/SCGR) Glenn Downing Award for excellence in teaching in the area of Machinery Systems. Bob currently teaches at Olds College, Olds, AB and farms at Swift Current SK. Raised on a farm near Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Bob Horne obtained a B.E. (Agricultural Engineering) degree in 1965, and a B.Ed. degree in 1970, both from the University of Saskatchewan. He achieved anAgricultural Mechanic Journeyman status while at Olds College in 1975. Bob worked for John Deere for five years in service and product development at Regina, SK Winnipeg, MB and Welland, ON. After obtaining his education degree, he worked for Lakeland College in Vermillion, AB for 3 years. Bob has been at Olds College for over 30 years. Bob also operates a grain farm near Swift Current, SK. Throughout his career, Bob Horne has provided a dedicated service to the students of Olds College. Bob has always placed a priority on giving his students the best education possible through his teaching methods and educational materials. Bob has maintained his knowledge of technology and farming practices through his industry and professional contacts. His leadership is evident in courses, programs and curriculum he has developed over the years. Murray Taylor, an Olds College colleague notes: "Bob's course material is very current and practical because Bob is practical, well read and conscientious, and also because he farms as well as teaches." Eric Jensen, a former engineering classmate and personal friend of Bob's says: "Bob personifies the ultimate well-rounded engineer, he understands the theory of his science and can apply it in very practical ways, as well as being able to explain it to others."
