Awards and Fellow status are given for outstanding contributions through work in one or more of the following:
- Design and development based on originality, practicality, and applicability; the awardee must have made the major contribution to the concepts, design or development recognized.
- Extension and management based on a record of high quality work in agricultural, food, and/or biological engineering extension such as leading in extension education through groups or T.V., or by assisting farmers in innovation of new farmstead systems or components. Alternatively, the awardee may be recognized for outstanding managerial work in the food processing industry, building firms, machinery firms, irrigation firms or land drainage.
- Teaching and/or research based on a record of good teaching involving innovation in teaching or course development, and professional and enthusiastic leadership to students. Alternatively, the Awardee may be recognized for research abilities and achievements through the development of new theoretical concepts, or the design and execution of good experiments to prove conclusively the answer to some questions of value to agricultural, food and/or biological engineering.
Eligibility for the Award
Only CSAE/SCGR members in good standing may nominate or co-nominate candidates for the Society's awards. The recipient shall be a member of CSAE/SCGR except for nominees for the Industrial Award. The recipient shall have made noteworthy contributions of achievement as described above in "The Award".
Maple Leaf Award
This award is given to honour members of the CSAE/SCGR who have distinguished themselves as leaders in the profession. It is the highest award made by the Society in recognition of leadership in the profession. The award is given for outstanding personal qualities, society activities, and professional abilities. The award recipient is selected from nominations from five members of the CSAE/SCGR and must receive the unanimous consent of the Awards Committee. The recipient must have been a member of the Society for at least ten years.

C'est le prix le plus prestigieux de la SCGR/CSAE et il est remis en reconnaissance de leadership pour l'avancement de la profession. Il souligne des qualités personnelles, des activités au sein de la SCGR/CSAE, une contribution remarquable et des compétences professionnelles. Le récipiendaire est choisi parmi les candidats mis en nomination par cinq membres. Il doit recevoir I'appui unanime des membres du comité des distinctions. Le récipiendaire est membre de la SCGR/CSAE depuis au moins dix ans.

Young Engineer of the Year Award
This award is given to recognize the outstanding work of a young engineer of the Society and to encourage outstanding work by young members of the Society. A recipient must be under 40 years of age as of January 1 in the year that the award is made. This award is given for outstanding contributions to Canadian agricultural, food, and/or biological engineering Prior to 1993 this award was known as "The Canadian Agricultural Engineer of the Year Award". From 1993 to 1996 this award was known as the "Young Agricultural Engineer of the Year Award". The award recipient is selected from nominations by three members of the CSAE/SCGR and must receive the unanimous consent of the Awards Committee.
Ce prix est décerné pour faire connaître et encourager le travail exceptionnel de jeunes membres de la SCGAB/CSAE. Il est réservé aux membres de moins de 40 ans. Le prix souligne une contribution exceptionnelle en génie rural, alimentaire ou biologique par la conception, le développement, la vulgarisation, la gestion, la recherche ou l'enseignement. Avant 1993, ce prix était connu comme «The Canadian Agricultural Engineer of the Year Award». De 1993 à 1996, ce prix était connu comme «Young Agricultural Engineer of the Year Award». Le récipiendaire est choisi parmi les candidats mis en nomination par trois membres. John Turnbull Award
This award is given annually to the CSAE/SCGR member who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, has produced outstanding work inbuilding systems, or waste management in industry, teaching, research, or extension. Prior to 1993, this award was known as the CSAE/Canadian Sheet Steel Building Institute (CSAE-CSSBI) Award. The award recipient is selected from nominations from at least three members of CSAE/SCGR and must have been a member of the Society for at least five years.

Anciennement connu sous le nom «SCGR/Canadian Sheet Steel Building Institute Award» le récipiendaire du prix John-Turnbull est choisi parmi les candidats mis en nomination par trois membres et est membre de la SCGR/CSAE depuis au moins cinq ans.

Glenn Downing Award
This award is presented annually to the CSAE/SCGR member who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, has produced outstanding work in industry, teaching, research, or extension in the area of machinery systems, or bioenergy systems. The recipient is selected from nominations from at least three members of CSAE/SCGR. and must have been a member of the Society for at least five years.

Le récipiendaire du prix Glenn-Downing est choisi parmi les candidat mis en nomination par trois membres et est membre de la SCGR/CSAE depuis au moins cinq ans.
Jim Beamish Award
This award is given annually to the CSAE/SCGR member who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, has produced outstanding work in industry, teaching, research, or extension in the area of soil and water, or environmental sciences. The Alumni Committee of Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA) sponsors the award. The recipient is selected from nominations from at least three members of CSAE/SCGR and must have been a member of the Society for at least five years. The Jim Beamish Award was established in 1989 to honour the memory of Jim Beamish, the first president of CSAE/SCGR and a long-time worker in soil and water, and water management.

Ce prix est commandité par le Comité des anciens du Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA). Le récipiendaire du prix Jim-Beamish est choisi parmi les candidats mis en nomination par trois members et est membre de la SCGR/CSAE depuis au moins cinq ans. Ce prix, établie en 1989, honore la mémoire du premier président de la SCGR/CSAE, Monsieur Jim Beamish qui oeuvra longtemps au développement de la gestion de l'eau et des sols agricoles.

John Clark Award
This award, in memory of John Clark, is given annually to the CSAE/SCGR member who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, has produced outstanding work in industry, teaching, research, or extension in one or more of the fields of food engineering, or related industry. The award recipient is selected from nominations from at least three members of CSAE/SCGR and must have been a member of the Society for at five years.
Ce prix, désigné à la mémoire de Monsieur John Clark, est décerné chaque année à un membre qui s'est distingué dans le domaine du génie alimentaire ou dans une industrie connexe par l'enseignement, la recherche, la vulgarisation ou le travail en industrie. Le récipiendaire du prix John-Clark est choisi parmi les candidats mis en nomination par trois membres et est membre de la SCGR/CSAE depuis au moins cinq ans.

Industrial Award
This award, first presented in 1999, is to recognize and honour industries that have produced a distinguished product or service requiring engineering skill, which has contributed significantly to the fields of agriculture, food processing, or other biological industry. The basis for selection of the award may include, but not be limited to, the ingenuity, significance, and entrepreneurship involved and the contribution to society and to the profession. The Awards Committee from nominations by three CSAE/SCGR members shall select the recipient of the award. The award, consisting of a plaque, will be presented at the Awards Banquet at the Annual Conference
Ce prix fut présenté pour la première fois en 1999 afin de souligner particulièrement les industries qui se sont distinguées en matière de service et d'innovation dans les domaines du génie agroalimentaire et biologique. Les critères de sélection du récipiendaire peuvent s'échelonner de l'ingéniosité des produits fabriqués, à l'impact des solutions apportées, ou encore à la contribution à l'amélioration de la qualité de vie de la société en général et de la renommée de la profession. Le lauréat aura été choisi par trois membres en règle de CSAE/SCGR oeuvrant sous la tutelle du Comité des prix; on lui remettra une plaque commémorative lors du banquet de fermeture du congrès annuel.

Instructions for Preparing a Nomination
Please use the nomination form for submitting a nomination. The nominator of the candidate for the Award shall submit a nomination to the Chair of the CSBE/SCGAB Awards Committee by January 31. Any signed letters of support can be included with the nomination or emailed to the attention of Chair, Awards Committee by the January 31 due date. Prior notification, to the Chair of the committee, of intent to submit a nomination would be appreciated. An e-mail or FAX when the nomination process is started would suffice.
