The Prairie Swine Centre is seeking a highly-motivated individual who is looking to develop a career in livestock environment research as part of an internationally-recognized swine research organization. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy conducting research, has interest in electronic technologies and/or similar applications, and genuine affinity for animals in general. You will be primarily responsible for implementing the activities necessary for the successful completion of on-going research projects involving the evaluation of occupational exposure of workers in livestock barns and the assessment of water conservation measures for livestock production operations. The work requires both mental and physical capabilities; key responsibilities include the conduct of comprehensive literature review, development of experimental protocols, data collection by benchmarking survey and using electronic monitoring systems, data analysis and reporting, and overall project management.
The successful candidate must have a post-secondary degree, preferably a M.Sc. or Ph.D. in the field of engineering, agriculture, environment, or related technical disciplines. Good working knowledge of instrumentation and ability to learn to properly operate and maintain research equipment such as gas analyzers, air quality monitors, electronic sensors, dataloggers, and HVAC controllers are essential. The candidate must have demonstrated aptitude to learn and follow strict experimental procedures, good interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A valid driving license and physical ability to perform moderate physical work are required. Experience working with animals is an asset but not required.
Starting salary is between $30,268 to $40,357 per annum (plus eligible benefits), commensurate with education and experience. Initial appointment is for a term of 2 years, with the possibility of renewal.
