It has been my privilege to serve the Society as its President over the past year. We have conducted the necessary business of the Society with the assistance of your council and our secretary/ manager.
Your council has held 6 business meetings commencing with an in-person inaugural meeting immediately after theAnnual General Meeting in PEI on July 15, 2009. Teleconference meetings were schedule on approximately 6 week intervals throughout the year (Oct. 19, 2009; Dec. 14, 2009; Jan. 11, 2010; March 8, 2010; May 10, 2010). The current council will hold an in-person meeting in Quebec City on June 13, 2010 and will preside over the Annual General Meeting on June 14, 2010.
The past year has come and gone very quickly. In PEI in mid-July 2009, as I accepted the gavel from Stephan Lemay, I knew that time would literally fly past, and it has.
Most of the activities in which I have undertaken have been of a caretaking nature. I have helped council to attend to the regular business of the society through several business meetings conducted by teleconference, seeking to help council find a balance between free expression and time sensitivity. I have also represented our Society on the ASABE Board of Trustees, and participated in discussions concerning the engagement of a new Executive Director for our sister society. In addition, I have participated on a Subcommittee of the Board, tasked with identifying and assessing all of the counterparties relationships in which ASABE participates. The work of developing a formal management system for these relationships will continue beyond my tenure on the Board.
