The 17th World Congress of the International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR) is only a few months away, scheduled on June 13 to 17, 2010 in Québec City, Canada. Over 900 technical presentations are in the preliminary program. Four pre-congress workshops are offered in drainage modeling, biomass logistics, life cycle assessment and geomorphology of streams. Post-congress technical tours include water management, food engineering, animal production engineering and bioenergy. Authors and participants are reminded to book hotel rooms early. The summer tourist season starts in June in Quebec City; hotel room availability close to the Convention Centre may be limited at the time of the Congress. Blocks of rooms have been reserved in several hotels nearby for CIGR delegates. Most hotels will release the unreserved rooms after April, so you are encouraged to book soon. The list of hotels with an agreement with CIGR 2010 are identified at: http://www.bioeng.ca/cigr2010/lodging-traveling/lodging The preliminary program was placed on line on February 18. High quality technical presentations are scheduled in all seven CIGR Sections, in addition to programs on Nanotechnology, Aquacultural Engineering, ASABE’s International Drainage Symposium, the American Ecological Engineering Society Annual Meeting and the World Congress on Computers in Agriculture. An updated version of the program will appear on the web site by April 20. Meanwhile, the preliminary program can be uploaded from the following link: http://www.bioeng.ca/cigr2010/programs Participants are encouraged to register early. You will be guaranteed to receive lunch each day, a copy of the proceedings in paper format (optional) and in electronic format, and any other information for delegates prior to arrival in Quebec City. The on-site registration is at: http://www.bioeng.ca/cigr2010/registration The 17th CIGR World Congress will bring together experts from more than 50 different countries to discuss common issues related to the general theme of “Sustainable Biosystems through Engineering”. Come and meet old friends and make new acquaintances in your professional network. In an enjoyable atmosphere of French traditions, the CIGR Congress in Quebec will challenge all of us to improve our future work in agricultural and biosystems engineering.
