CIGR’s Armand BLANC Prize: update for authors PDF Print E-mail

Dear Colleague,

The Armand BLANC prize is awarded to students and young members under 30 years of age for presenting excellent papers at a CIGR World Congress.  This award commemorates Prof. Armand Blanc, former Head of the Institut National Agronomique, Paris, France who was President of CIGR from 1950 to 1962.

A review committee will evaluate full-length papers submitted by participants who are less than 30 years of age as of January 1, 2010 (born since January 1, 1980).   For the upcoming 17th CIGR World Congress in Quebec City, young members are invited to fill out and submit the registration form to participate in the competition.

Besides the age requirement, participants are required to have uploaded a full-length paper by the deadline (February 20, 2010) on the official template.  They are also expected to be pre-registered as all other presenters to confirm their participation at the Congress.  The evaluation is based on the quality of the written paper.  The prize is available independently of the format presentation at the Congress (oral or poster).

Overall, more than 900 abstracts have been accepted (about 2/3 in the oral program, 1/3 in the poster program).  Authors whose abstract has been accepted also need to upload a final version of their abstract by February 20.  This uploaded file can also contain a full-length paper (up to 10 pages) which is mandatory for the International Drainage Symposium and to participate in the Armand BLANC prize competition.  A full-length paper is not mandatory in other cases, but encouraged.  This flexibility is necessary because several authors plan to publish in peer-reviewed journals and a pre-publication in a conference proceedings can compromise this possibility.

The preliminary program will normally be available by mid-February on the site.  Note that authors of an oral presentation are required to pre-register by February 25, 2010; authors of a poster are required to pre-register by April 1, 2010.  Early-bird reduced registration rates apply to all until February 25, 2010.

Plan now to complete your revised abstracts, final papers and pre-registration applications!
