Welcome to the 17th CIGR World Congress!

The International Commission of Agricultural Engineering (cigr.org) will hold its XVIIth World Congress in Québec City, Canada on June 13 to 17, 2010. The Canadian Society for Bioengineering– Societé canadienne de génie agroalimentaire et de bioingénierie (CSBE/SCGAB) will be the host Society (bioeng.ca).

The theme of the Congress is : “Sustainable Biosystems through Engineering”. The local organizing committee is planning several exciting events that will make your stay in Quebec City a truly memorable one. Quebec is one of the oldest cities in North America, celebrating its 400th anniversary in 2008. Eastern Canada offers excellent opportunities for technical, historical and natural science exploration.

Plan to share your most recent discoveries in the areas of agricultural, food and biosystems engineering with colleagues from around the world. Mark the dates (June 13-17, 2010) so you can participate in the progress and development of trends in your area of work.

These associations will join CIGR 2010 to hold their symposia and meetings:

  • 9th International Drainage Symposium (IDS) sponsored by ASABE
  • 8th World Congress on Computer in Agriculture (WCCA) sponsored by INFITA
  • 10th Annual Meeting of the American Ecological Engineering Society (AEES)
  • Génie des Procédés Appliqué en Agro-Alimentaire (GP3A)
  • 13th Inter-Regional Conference on Land, Environment and Water (EnviroWater 2010) as part of CIGR Section I

CIGR’s Armand BLANC Prize: update for authors
News

Dear Colleague,

The Armand BLANC prize is awarded to students and young members under 30 years of age for presenting excellent papers at a CIGR World Congress.  This award commemorates Prof. Armand Blanc, former Head of the Institut National Agronomique, Paris, France who was President of CIGR from 1950 to 1962.

A review committee will evaluate full-length papers submitted by participants who are less than 30 years of age as of January 1, 2010 (born since January 1, 1980).   For the upcoming 17th CIGR World Congress in Quebec City, young members are invited to fill out and submit the registration form to participate in the competition.

Besides the age requirement, participants are required to have uploaded a full-length paper by the deadline (February 20, 2010) on the official template.  They are also expected to be pre-registered as all other presenters to confirm their participation at the Congress.  The evaluation is based on the quality of the written paper.  The prize is available independently of the format presentation at the Congress (oral or poster).

Overall, more than 900 abstracts have been accepted (about 2/3 in the oral program, 1/3 in the poster program).  Authors whose abstract has been accepted also need to upload a final version of their abstract by February 20.  This uploaded file can also contain a full-length paper (up to 10 pages) which is mandatory for the International Drainage Symposium and to participate in the Armand BLANC prize competition.  A full-length paper is not mandatory in other cases, but encouraged.  This flexibility is necessary because several authors plan to publish in peer-reviewed journals and a pre-publication in a conference proceedings can compromise this possibility.

The preliminary program will normally be available by mid-February on the site.  Note that authors of an oral presentation are required to pre-register by February 25, 2010; authors of a poster are required to pre-register by April 1, 2010.  Early-bird reduced registration rates apply to all until February 25, 2010.

Plan now to complete your revised abstracts, final papers and pre-registration applications!
